The Jerusalem Review is published in Israel, and is meant to be distributed all over the world. It includes translations from Hebrew literature ancient and modern; contributions by Jewish writers in the Diaspora; essays on various aspects of Judaism, Israel, the Middle East, and related topics, and a section devoted to the visual arts in Israel. It also seeks to establish a genuine dialogue with non-Jewish authors and intellectuals. We wish to exhibit both the pluralism and the unique character of spiritual, cultural, artistic, and educational trends existing in contemporary Israel. Despite the limited number of Hebrew speakers and readers, Hebrew is one of the classical languages of West and East alike, and perhaps the only classical language still spoken today. Its vitality and richness are also manifest in the achievements of contemporary Israeli literature. The Jerusalem Review seeks to transcend the barrier of language and to cultivate a joint Israeli-Diaspora forum based on mutual exploration of cultural issues and reflection on many dimensions of Jewish heritage. In addition, we intend to reach the non-Jewish intellectual and enlightened media ambiences, and initiate a dialogue with Palestinian, Arab and Muslim writers and academy elites from a standpoint of mutual respect.
